John Smeaton, co-founder of Voice of the Family, published an article today exposing the fact that two major speakers at the Vatican’s workshop on the environment are deeply entrenched in their support for the spread of abortion and population control around the world. Both the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki Moon, and US Economist Jeffery Sachs are presenters at the Vatican event.
The statement by Voice of the Family says, in part:
We wish to express our grave concern at the presence of Ban Ki Moon (pictured above), the UN Secretary General, and Professor Jeffrey Sachs, Director of the Earth Institute, at the Vatican workshop “Protect the Earth, Dignify Humanity. The Moral Dimensions of Climate Change and Sustainable Development” held by the Pontifical Academy for Sciences (PAS), Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and Religions for Peace on April 28th 2015 in anticipation of the new papal encyclical on the environment.
Ban Ki Moon and Professor Jeffrey Sachs are noted advocates of abortion who operate at the highest levels of the United Nations.
The Lepanto Institute joins Voice of the Family in their concerns, as Lepanto president Michael Hichborn has exposed Jeffrey Sachs and his insertion into Catholic circles in the past. Hichborn’s 2012 video, “Aborting Poverty” illustrated Sachs’ promotion of abortion and contraception, and the applause he received not only from various Catholic circles, but even the former head of Catholic Relief Services, Ken Hackett. Hackett and CRS’s former communications director John Rivera called Sachs’ book “The End of Poverty” a “must-read” and a “positive force for the cause of development.” You can watch the video presentation here:
That both Sachs and Ban Ki Moon are strident proponents of population control is beyond dispute. What they are doing in the Vatican is the real question.
