Catholic-Funded Organization in Join Project with Planned Parenthood, Run by Homosexuality Activist
Washington, DC—The Lepanto Institute’s latest investigation into the notorious Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) exposes another organization linked to Planned Parenthood. The Merced Organizing Project (MOP), an organization based out of Merced County, California, is involved in a joint project with Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion chain, to identify “preventative” services found in the Affordable Health Care Act. This discovery comes on the heels of another CCHD grantee identified by the Lepanto Institute which was listed on a Planned Parenthood Title X grant application as a “community partner,” and whose youth director created a presentation encouraging young people to seek Planned Parenthood’s “confidential services.”
MOP is represented on a five person team for the California Leadership Academy for the Public’s Health (CaLAPH) by it’s community organizer, Crisantema Gallardo. CaLAPH trains teams across California to address social determinants of health and to work towards health in all policies in their community. On the same team with MOP is the program manager for Planned Parenthood Mar Monte. According to a PowerPoint presentation created by the team, the training provided by them includes “prevention services for women, including pregnant women.”
“There’s only one reason for Planned Parenthood to be involved in a project like this, and that’s to spread abortion and contraception,” said Michael Hichborn, president of the Lepanto Institute. “There is no way anyone from MOP can be involved in this project with Planned Parenthood and not be complicit in Planned Parenthood’s aims and goals. Once Planned Parenthood got involved, the only moral and ethical action to take was to quit the project.”
The Lepanto Institute’s profile on MOP also identifies the same community organizer as a homosexual activist. Several emails from Gallardo on a public google group promote homosexual activist organizations and transgender awareness events. She is also a member of at least two homosexual activist groups.
“It’s obvious from MOP’s community organizer’s activities that she stands in stark contrast with Catholic teaching,” said Hichborn. “Surely there are better places to give $50,000 collected from pew-sitting Catholics.”
