On May 6th, 2016, I visited the Vatican Office of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith to request an appointment with His Eminence Gerhard Cardinal Muller, who had replaced Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger as the Prefect of the most important Vatican Dicastery, the ‘Holy Office’.
His Eminence Gerhard Ludwig Müller is a German Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as Professor of Dogmatic Theology on the University of Munich (1986-2002), then as Bishop of Regensburg (2002-2012) and then as the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) from his appointment by Pope Benedict XVI in 2012 until 2017. He was elevated to the rank of Cardinal in 2014.
His Eminence kindly received me in his office, where I presented him with a copy of the Royal Book of Catholic Apologetics, ‘In Defense of the Seven Sacraments Against Martin Luther’ written by King Henry VIII of England, which I had edited and published in English.
My primary purpose for the appointment with His Eminence was to ask of his pastoral solicitude to write a preface for the new German edition of the book to be published in October 2017, on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of Luther’s rebellion against the Church.
His Eminence kindly agreed to write the Preface, for which I am indeed most grateful. It will be published in the German edition. An English translation of his preface will be available in due course.
On October 21, 2017, His Excellency Athanasius Schneider, O.R.C., Auxiliary Bishop of Astana, Kazakhstan, celebrated a High Pontifical Mass in Washington DC in honor of Blessed Karl von Habsburg, the last Emperor of Austria and Apostolic King of Hungary. After the Holy Sacrifice, I asked His Excellency to write the postface of the German edition of Henry VIII’s book, a task which he kindly agreed to do.
‘Defense of the Seven Sacraments Against Martin Luther’ constitutes the greatest irony in Christian History: it was written by the founder-to-be of the Church of England as a defense of Catholicism against the founder of Protestantism…! It is a remarkable defense of the Catholic Church’s teachings on the Papacy, the indulgences, the Mass as a Sacrifice, Christ’s Real Presence in the Eucharist and the seven Sacraments in general, thoroughly refuting Luther’s novel heresies in chapter and in verse.
The New Millennium edition of the Royal Book of Catholic Apologetics by Henry VIII is duly dedicated to Elizabeth II, Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Her Majesty is also the official Head of the Church of England.
A copy of the book was sent to Buckingham Palace as a gift to her Majesty, as a fraternal and respectful reminder of the union which England and Rome shared for well over one thousand years. It was accompanied by a letter in which I expressed my concerns for the Christian future of Europe, in view of the current massive Islamic migration.
I expressed to Her Majesty my strong belief that, unless all baptized Christians in Europe reunite once again under one Lord, one Faith, and one Baptism (Ephesians 4:5) in the One Church of God, the Pillar and Mainstay of the Truth (1 Timothy 3:15), there is much to fear about the Christian future of Europe.
The Queen’s Secretary acknowledged and thanked for the gift on behalf of Her Majesty, and graciously expressed the Queen’s good wishes, noting my concerns about the future of Christianity in Europe.
The New Millennium edition of ‘Defense of the Seven Sacraments’ is a unique book from several points of view: It was authored by a King, Henry VIII; assisted by a Saint, Saint Thomas More; acclaimed by a Pope, Leo X; dedicated to a Queen, Elizabeth II; and published in memoriam of the Crusader of the Twentieth Century, Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira.
The English edition is accompanied by two of my talks recorded on CD: One on the De-Christianization of the Western Culture and the other on the Real Presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist, quoting Henry VIII.

I am most grateful to His Eminence Gerhard Cardinal Muller and His Excellency Bishop Athanasius Schneider for their kind contribution to the promotion of this ground-breaking study to refute the heresies of Martin Luther and to promote the authentic ecumenism of bringing all Christians together in the One Church of Christ, the pillar and mainstay of the Truth (1Tim. 3:15).
