According to Winston Churchill, “Socialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy.” He also said: “The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings. The inherent virtue of Socialism is the equal sharing of miseries.”
Those are political definitions. With more than half a century of hindsight, I dare to add a definition of my own that falls closer to the realm of criminology:
Socialism is an international association of criminals always seeking to increase their political power. Their main objective is to establish a totalitarian state by any means necessary, for the purposes of ransacking the riches of any nation foolish enough to believe in their propaganda.”
Many are the nations that have fallen prey to the siren song of Socialism. Not one of those nations has improved its lot. Venezuela is the latest victim but other countries have added limited “programs” that apply the principles of Socialism to various fields of national activity. One very common element are the so called “labor unions” that were created to supposedly defend the workers from the abuses of capitalist employers but ended up being the refuge of a protected class, the “union bosses” whose salaries come off the backs of the wage earners. Those workers have to give up their right to negotiate their salary personally. That results in all being paid the same “union wages” regardless of their individual productivity. In the end, productive individuals are demoralized and the unproductive are rewarded with pay they otherwise do not deserve. When those practices enter the productive system of a nation, they generate discontent, lower quality output, growing prices, and other undesirable consequences.
One can say that Socialism, even in limited doses, is detrimental to the life of any country: the more Socialism is pumped into the system, the less peace, order, and prosperity a nation has.
In my personal experience, Socialists often try to excuse the fracas of experiments like the Soviet Union, Mao’s China, Castro’s Cuba, and others as “badly applied Socialist principles.” They quickly point at countries like Sweden, Norway, (and even Switzerland!) as examples of well-applied Socialism. The problem with that faulty line of reasoning is that those countries have a very robust capitalist component to support things like socialized medicine, home construction, education, and so on. Now that we have over a century of experience in the application of all kinds of Socialist schemes, we can say without fear of error that Socialism has a disastrous record. At least one country that abandoned Socialism after a decade of trying to make it work —Singapore— managed to climb to a privileged position among the top economies of the world by switching to a capitalistic system. On the other hand, Venezuela, a formerly capitalist country with immense oil reserves, saw its economy evaporate under Socialist rule while their corrupt Socialist leaders became billionaires overnight.
That is not liberation
Socialism has been infiltrating the Western World for well over a century now. Several defectors from the old Soviet Union, and the Communist Party have revealed there were plans to infiltrate the institutions of the West as early as 1924. In a recent interview, Ion Mihail Pacepa, a former KGB operative from Bulgaria, revealed for example that the KGB was instrumental in fostering the growth of Liberation Theology.
The movement was born in the KGB, and it had a KGB-invented name: Liberation Theology. During those years, the KGB had a penchant for “liberation” movements. The National Liberation Army of Columbia (FARC), created by the KGB with help from Fidel Castro; the “National Liberation Army of Bolivia, created by the KGB with help from “Che” Guevara; and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), created by the KGB with help from Yasser Arafat are just a few additional “liberation” movements born at the Lubyanka — the headquarters of the KGB.”
In the writings of an Italian revolutionary, titled Quaderni del Carcere the author, Antonio Gramsci, presents his idea of “the long march through the institutions.” Gramsci was very frustrated by the success of Fascist Socialism under Benito Mussolini, for the seemingly inexhaustible energy of Capitalism and the meager results that Marxism was obtaining among his compatriots. In his writings, Gramsci proposes an ingenious plan: to integrate Marxism into the culture and change the people’s way of thinking from the inside. He thought it was necessary to debilitate patriotism, religion, national traditions, and other elements of the culture that represented an impassable barrier for the Marxists plan of a world revolt. That was the seed for the infiltration one can see now in societies like the United States, where the education system, the entertainment industry, the justice system, some political parties, etc. have become Socialist indoctrination channels for the youth and the most gullible among the general population.
The Church is a prime target
The Catholic Church was also a target of the Communists. How could it not be! Bella Dodd, a convert to the Catholic religion who, before her conversion, worked as legal counsel to the Communist Party in the United States, revealed their plans. The author of an article published by Christian Order Magazine in November 2000, describes how Dodd and her associate Douglas Hyde, revealed how the Communist planned to destroy the Church:
I listened to that woman for four hours and she had my hair standing on end. Everything she said has been fulfilled to the letter. You would think she was the world’s greatest prophet, but she was no prophet. She was merely exposing the step-by-step battle plan of Communist subversion of the Catholic Church. She explained that of all the world’s religions, the Catholic Church was the only one feared by the Communists, for it was its only effective opponent. The whole idea was to destroy, not the institution of the Church, but rather the Faith of the people, and even use the institution of the Church, if possible, to destroy the Faith through the promotion of a pseudo-religion: something that resembled Catholicism but was not the real thing. Once the Faith was destroyed, she explained that there would be a guilt complex introduced into the Church…. to label the ‘Church of the past’ as being oppressive, authoritarian, full of prejudices, arrogant in claiming to be the sole possessor of truth, and responsible for the divisions of religious bodies throughout the centuries. This would be necessary in order to shame Church leaders into an ‘openness to the world,’ and to a more flexible attitude toward all religions and philosophies. The Communists would then exploit this openness in order to undermine the Church.”
The plan is coming to fruition
I can affirm to the best of my belief, that the infiltration of the Catholic Church has been advancing nearly unimpeded for over half a century. We know that God is in control and this awful invasion has been permitted to further the purification of the Church. This did not come without warning. Various aspects of this particular situation have been revealed in apparitions of Our Lady since the mid 19th century. Our Lord also gave some details to the likes of St. Faustina Kowalska and St. Pio of Pietrelcina among many others. However, there is no reason to despair. We have to go through this as a Church just as the Israelites had to go through many trials before taking possession of the Promised Land. The forces of evil shall not prevail for ever.
It is imperative that we get as familiar as possible with this problem. Many souls could be lost, and may be already been lost, to scandals and bad catechesis. We must be able to make a distinction between the polluted part of the Church and the faithful Church that is now facing her own impending Passion. This is not an isolated process. The attack we are suffering is part of a global domination effort launched by demonic forces trying to destroy mankind and impede the arrival of God’s Kingdom.
Praying for those faithful priests and bishops and for their flocks is the most important thing we can do now. Our weapon is the Holy Rosary, our hope is in the promise of Our Lord: “I will be with you until the end of the age,” (Matthew 28:20) and also in the assurance of Our Blessed Mother: “In the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph.”
